Service Committee Duties & Responsibilities

AREA CHAIR:

  • 2-years continuous sobriety required
  • 2-year commitment for Area Chair position
  • Previous chair experience on a standing committee.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts, And working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order
  • Presides over the quarterly Area meetings; ensuring that Area meetings run efficiently without conflict.
  • Has user/pw access to the Area’s paypal account.
  • Assumes responsibility of overseeing and coordinating all activities within the Area.
  • Is responsible to ensure that Traditions are being maintained within the Area and the individual Groups therein.
  • Encourage trusted servants to chair various Standing Committees.  Chair may only vote in the event of a tie.
  • Provide copies of all materials including documents, flyers and reports to the Archives Committee.

AREA VICE- CHAIR:

  • 2-years continuous sobriety required
  • 1-year commitment for position
  • 1 year of active service in C.A.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts, And working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order
  • Assist Area Chair where required and requested.
  • Assumes the responsibilities in the absence of the Chair.

AREA SECRETARY:

  • 1-year continuous sobriety required
  • 1-year commitment

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts
  • Take monthly minutes and provide a redacted (last names) in a pdf for the Area records.
  • Provide copies of all materials including documents, flyers and reports to the Archives Committee.

AREA TREASURER:

  • 3-years continuous sobriety required
  • 2-year commitment

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts
  • Have gainful employment with source of income.
  • Accounting knowledge an asset, possession of a computer, internet access and familiarity with the spreadsheets i.e. excel (Windows) numbers (Mac).
  • Has access user/pw to the Area’s paypal account.
  • Responsible to oversee and maintain a prudent reserve (3 months)
  • Responsible to maintain records and account for all received 7th donations and monies disbursed.
  • Must attend and present quarterly account balance at Area.
  • Prepare an annual budget.
  • Make financial recommendations to Area (i.e., donations to World Services).
  • Provide copies of all materials including documents, flyers and reports to the Archives Committee.

AREA ARCHIVIST

Tradition Eight: Cocaine Anonymous should remain forever nonprofessional, but our service centres may employ special workers.

From shared experience we know that it takes a considerable amount of time to become familiar with a collection of historical information. Thus, “in the spirit of rotation — the more responsible the assignment the longer the term of service must be if we are to have effectiveness. Bill Wilson writes that for a trustee to be of any use whatever they must serve four years.” (CA NewsGram, Third Quarter 2003, Vol. 19 No. 3. Concept Eleven—Best possible ‘members’) Therefore, it is recommended that the archivist NOT rotate frequently. (A.A. Archives Workbook, 2001)

Prerequisite: A minimum of two (2) years continuous sobriety and a C.A. member.

Recommended Experience: A C.A. Member and elder states-person who is familiar with The Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions and Twelve Concepts of Cocaine Anonymous and has good organizational skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Should have strong computer skills with knowledge of free online services such as document conversion (.pdf to .docx or .docx to .pdf), image editing, audio editing, etc.  The Archivist ought have a strong working knowledge of the policy, procedures and Guidelines of the Archive Committee. Archiving knowledge and practice is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  1. Voting Member of the Archive Committee.
  2. Attend Archive Committee Meetings.
  3. Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts.
  4. SERVE as the focal person for the collection/repository.
  5. Responsible for collecting, preserving, cataloging and curating the Online Recovery Area archives.
  6. Liaises with the Archive Chair and Committee members.
  7. Acts as the guardian of the digital archive repository and responsible for its protection, security, and maintenance.
  8. Mentor an Assistant Archivist, training them in all the duties of the Online Recovery Area Archivist.
  9. Archivist is subject to a performance review every 2 years by the Online Recovery Area Service Committee.

PUBLIC INFORMATION:

Prerequisites:

  • 2-years continuous sobriety required
  • 1-year commitment

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts
  • Form a committee, including a Vice-Chair, Social Media Coordinator, Secretary
  • Expand public awareness of CA Online Meeting support via the Area Website: https://onlinerecoveryarea.org
  • Provide copies of all materials including documents, flyers and Area reports to the Archives Committee.

WEB SERVANT

  • Indefinite: subject to a performance review every 2 years by the Online Recovery Area Service Committee.

Prerequisite:

  • WordPress backend admin experience.
  • Familiarity with Domain Registrars, domain name renewals, and dns updates.
  • 1 Year of continuous sobriety

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Holder of the digital keys to the Registrar (Domain Renewals), Web-site Admin Panel.
  • Coordinates yearly subscription renewals for the domain name and hosting with the Treasurer.
  • Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts.
  • Maintains and updates the Area Website: https://onlinerecoveryarea.org
  • Provides Group updates to the C.A. Meeting App.
  • Provide copies of all materials including documents, flyers and Area reports to the Archives Committee.

UNITY

  • 1 year commitment

Prerequisite:

  •  2 years continuous sobriety

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Upholds The 12 Traditions And 12 Concepts
  • Organizes online Celebrate Around the World event as a fundraiser to send our delegate to the World Service Conference. Event to be held sometime early in March 2026.
